Iran's parliament speaker emphasizes 'plan to overcome unjust sanctions' in response to US sanctions threat

Commenting on the threat of increased economic sanctions from the United States, Iran's parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who headed Iran's previous negotiation team, said Iran must come up with a plan to overcome "unjust sanctions."

According to Reuters on the 21st (local time), Chairman Ghalibaf said in a speech to representatives of Iranian and Iraqi businessmen, "If you look at the resources and raw materials of the Islamic countries, you will see that our enemies come to plunder them," he said through his Telegram channel.

He continued, “Therefore, we must develop a response plan to overcome unjust sanctions.”

Chairman Ghalibaf said that economic development and security are closely related, and claimed that the United States and Israel are waging economic war and "cognitive warfare" after determining that they cannot win a direct military confrontation with Iran and Iraq.

He also called for strengthening economic ties between Iran and Iraq, saying the two countries could use their own currencies for trade, reducing their dependence on the U.S. dollar.

His remarks came after U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant mentioned the "strongest sanctions in history" against Iran in an interview with CNBC the previous day.

Minister Bessant said that he would hold a press conference on the 24th and disclose the details of his plan to put economic pressure on Iran, and that he would use this to collapse the Iranian regime.
