Indonesia: Authorities warn of danger from Anak Krakatoa volcanic ash

JAKARTA, September 6 – RIA Novosti. Fine particles of volcanic ash spreading from the Anak Krakatau eruption in Indonesia are sharp enough to pose a danger to the eyes, the country's Interior Minister Tito Karnavian said.

“It is also necessary to protect the eyes and vision, because the ash particles, although small, are quite sharp, so glasses or other necessary protective equipment should be used,” Karnavian said at a press conference with the Indonesian Government Communications Agency.

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also urged residents to protect their respiratory organs from volcanic ash and use masks. The country's Ministry of Health previously issued similar recommendations.

In areas where volcanic ash is spreading, local authorities have been instructed to distribute masks and encourage residents to use eye protection.

If the spread of ash increases, it is also recommended to reduce your time outside.
