Protest at Dover port blocks traffic

Dozens of people blocked the English port of Dover as part of a protest. Sky News reports this.

Unidentified people in balaclavas and black clothes came out onto the roadway and roundabout near the port. Kent Police told Sky News they were aware of the protest and were speaking with those involved.

The port administration confirmed that traffic on all routes was disrupted: both to and from the port, as well as along the city streets.

Labor MP for Dover and Deal Mike Tapp strongly condemned the protesters. “I'm fed up with idiots coming to Dover to cause trouble. I bet if you asked any of these "protesters" they don't even know that small boat crossings are down 40 percent and we're working hard to clean up the mess. Go home, enjoy the weekend or get a job,” he wrote.

Dover is a city and major seaport in the south-east of England, in the county of Kent. It is located on the shores of the Pas de Calais Strait, at the narrowest part of the English Channel, and has historically been the main "sea gateway" between the UK and continental Europe.
