A 20-year-old co-driver dies in an accident during the Villa de Llanes Rally

A 20-year-old co-driver lost her life this Saturday when the car she was participating in the Villa de Llanes Rally caught on fire and went off the road, an accident in which the driver, a 26-year-old man, was also injured, according to sources from the Civil Guard and 112 Asturias.

The accident occurred shortly before 2:00 p.m., at kilometer point 14 of the LLN-7 regional road, in a place that corresponded to section two of the rally, between the towns of Llanes and Meré, on the eastern coast of Asturias.

The deceased young woman was the passenger of a BMW320 that left the road in that section of the 'Mazucu' on the left bank and caught fire with her inside, while the pilot was able to get out of the vehicle.

The Emergency Coordination Center received notification at 1:53 p.m. that during the sporting event a car had gone off the road and that it was on fire with a person inside.

At 2:09 p.m., those responsible for the medical device of the test organization itself indicated that the young woman who remained in the car was dead and that the pilot injured in the accident had been transferred to the Arriondas Regional Hospital.

Firefighters from Llanes Park who went to the scene of the incident extinguished the fire at 2:36 p.m.

After the accident, the organization of the 49th Rallye Villa de Llanes agreed to suspend the competition and all the timed sections remaining until the end of the test, which began on Friday.
