Synopsis
A Faridabad delivery boy allegedly returned two hours after making a parcel delivery in changed clothes and carrying a knife to rob a woman and her elderly mother-in-law. Police said repeated visits helped him learn the house had no man, while a recce helped him plan the robbery, The Times of India reported.
A delivery boy allegedly turned a routine parcel delivery into a robbery plan after repeatedly visiting a Faridabad house and learning about the people living there, The Times of India reported. Police said the accused knew that a woman and her elderly mother-in-law could be alone at the house.
The accused, identified as 24-year-old Veerpratap Singh alias Veeru, allegedly returned to the same house about two hours after making a delivery on August 26. This time, police said, he had changed his clothes and carried a knife.
He first arrived as a delivery boy
According to the TOI report, Veerpratap reached the house around 10am and asked about the receipt of a parcel before leaving. About two hours later, he allegedly came back wearing different clothes.
The woman’s elderly mother-in-law opened the door, reportedly believing that he had returned to deliver another parcel. Police said Veerpratap then allegedly forced his way inside, pulled out a knife and threatened the two women.

He allegedly took their gold jewellery before fleeing. Police have not yet disclosed the value of the jewellery.
Police say he knew the house well
Veerpratap had worked as a delivery boy for around three years and had delivered parcels to the same house several times, according to police quoted by TOI.
ACP Varun Dahiya said the accused had also conducted a recce before carrying out the robbery. Police believe his repeated visits helped him understand the house and its occupants.
“Before committing the crime, the accused examined the surroundings. He was familiar with the fact that only women, including a senior citizen, would be present at home. He had come prepared,” Dahiya said.
Police said the accused deliberately chose the house after learning that no man lived there.
Crime branch arrests accused
The woman approached Surajkund police station after the incident, following which police registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, TOI reported.
The crime branch used technical inputs and information from sources to identify the accused. Police arrested Veerpratap on Saturday.
Investigators said they had not found any previous criminal record against him so far. Police have taken him into custody and are questioning him about the robbery and whether anyone else helped him.
They are also trying to recover the stolen jewellery and the knife allegedly used during the crime.
Police issue warning over home deliveries
The incident has led police to advise residents to be cautious while receiving deliveries at home.
Dahiya said people should avoid allowing delivery personnel inside their homes and should instead step outside to collect parcels or receive them from a safer distance.
In this case, police allege that the accused used his familiarity with the house, gained through repeated deliveries, to identify a time when two women were alone before returning in different clothes with a knife.
