Major police operation underway after shots fired at event in Switzerland's Aarau

A shooting at a rave party in northern Switzerland killed one person and injured at least five others, some seriously, local police said on Sunday. Aargau cantonal police said a manhunt was underway following the shooting and appealed to the public for photographs or videos that could help with the investigation. The shooting reportedly took place at a rave party at a hippodrome in Aarau, according to Swiss tabloid Blick, which published a video recording successive gunshots. The footage could not be independently verified. Large areas of Aarau have been cordoned off, police said, while their presence has been increased beyond the town as a precaution. The incident was reported after police initially said there were "several victims" following shots fired at an event in the Schachen area early Sunday. Switzerland has one of the highest rates of gun ownership in Europe, although violent shootings are relatively rare. The country approved tighter gun control rules in 2019.
