The accused, Harsh Bhati, a resident of Awas Vikas Colony, was caught by the victims’ family members as he allegedly tried to escape after the attack and was subsequently handed over to police. According to the victims’ father, his daughter’s marriage had earlier been arranged with Bhati. The family decided to call off the alliance after allegedly discovering that he was addicted to drugs, news agency PTI reported. The family told police that Bhati arrived at their house on Saturday night carrying acid. When the door was opened, he allegedly threw the acid at his former fiancee. Her sister tried to step in after the attack, but Bhati allegedly threw acid at her too, according to the complaint. The screams of the two women alerted other family members, who caught Bhati as he was allegedly attempting to flee from the house, police said. A team from Simbhawali police station reached the spot soon after and took the accused into custody. The injured sisters were taken to a hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment. Circle Officer Rahul Yadav said police had registered a case on the basis of the complaint submitted by the victims’ family. The accused is being questioned as part of the investigation.
