Pharmacist is investigated for illegal practice of medicine after an inspection found irregularities in an aesthetics clinic in the Jardim Itália neighborhood, in Cuiabá, this Saturday (12). The place was closed, and medicines and materials used in invasive procedures were seized.

The action was carried out by the Civil Police, the Municipal Health Surveillance of Cuiabá and the Regional Pharmacy Council of Mato Grosso (CRF-MT).

According to the Civil Police, the professional, who lives in Rondonópolis, would be carrying out invasive procedures that would be restricted to doctors, such as laser applications and an intimate surgery known as nymphoplasty. The regularity of the procedures will be investigated.

During the inspection, the CRF-MT found that the pharmacist did not have authorization to work in Cuiabá and that she was exceeding the limits set for the profession.

Irregularities in the clinic

Health Surveillance also found several irregularities at the clinic, which did not have a health license or technical manager.

Among the problems were:

lack of patient records and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);

problems in the hygiene and operating conditions of the clinic;

disposal of potentially infectious waste in common trash;

lack of suitable containers for these materials;

absence of a contract with a company specialized in the collection and disposal of healthcare waste.

A cannula used in an endolaser procedure was found open and discarded in a common trash can next to the sink. Medications prescribed by the pharmaceutical company itself and products manipulated irregularly were also found.

Measures adopted

The medicines, products and other materials were seized for subsequent destruction and appropriate disposal. The space where the services were provided was closed by the Health Surveillance.

The Civil Police opened a procedure to investigate the suspicion of illegal practice of medicine. The crime is provided for in article 282 of the Penal Code and can result in a sentence of up to two years in prison. If there is a profit motive, a fine may also be imposed.

Health Surveillance and CRF-MT must adopt the appropriate administrative measures.

What is nymphoplasty

Nymphoplasty is a term used to refer to surgery to reduce the labia minora. It can include other interventions in the intimate region, such as reduction of the labia majora or even clitoral surgery, depending on the case and the patient's needs.

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), surgery may be indicated in some situations:

Hypertrophy or asymmetry of the labia minora perceived by the woman and causing discomfort with sporting activities or wearing clothes, and pain or intravaginal entrapment of the labia minora during vaginal penetration;

Vaginal changes due to pregnancy or obstetric injury that affect the appearance of the genitalia or interfere with the pleasurable sensation of intercourse;

Postpartum vaginal looseness that interferes with a woman's sexual satisfaction
