Driver loses control of car after traffic argument and collides with taxi in Campinas

According to the PM, the suspect was chasing a motorcycle after a traffic dispute, when he lost control of the car.

The accident happened around 9pm, on Avenida Doutor Arlindo Joaquim de Lemos. Security camera images provided to EPTV, a TV Globo affiliate, recorded the moment of the accident (see video above).

In the video, it is possible to see a taxi stopped on the road while a car and a motorcycle passed by. The car driven by the detainee appears at high speed and crashes into the taxi and the car. Due to the impact, the taxi started a collision that involved two more parked cars.

According to the suspect's report to the police, he lost control of the steering wheel. The taxi driver suffered injuries to his face and was rescued by the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) to UPA Carlos Lourenço.

According to the PM, the driver refused to take a breathalyzer test and was taken to the 1st Police District of Campinas.

In a statement, the defense reported that the driver was taken to the police station after being suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and that, after legal advice, he chose not to take the breathalyzer test.

According to lawyers, during the police procedures it was not possible to confirm or confirm drunkenness. Therefore, after recording the incident, the driver was released.

The defense added that the investigation of the facts must still clarify the circumstances of the accident and the possible responsibility of those involved.
