FC Nantes: negotiations for the sale of the club enter an advanced phase

The file for the sale of FC Nantes is changing dimension. After weeks of rumors and more or less concrete leads, the discussions have now entered a much more advanced phase. According to information from the Team, confirmed on several points by Télénantes, Waldemar Kita, owner of the Canaries, is in extensive negotiations with a group of French and Portuguese investors to sell the club.

The soap opera on the sale of the eight-time French champion, on the table for several months, has aroused interest from different horizons. UK, USA, Middle East, France. Even including David Beckham, blown away a few weeks ago. But, this time, the file would have gone beyond the stage of simple expressions of interest. A development particularly followed while Nantes, relegated to Ligue 2, occupies the bottom of the table (15th) after seven days.

A project worth around 100 million euros

Télénantes spoke on Thursday of foreign investors likely to offer between 30 and 40 million euros, while the Kita family, at the head of the club since 2007, hoped to obtain many more advantages before selling FC Nantes, setting a price of around 95 million euros.

At the heart of the case is Paulo Tavares, a former Portuguese agent who would play the role of intermediary, even leading figure in the project. He had notably participated in the arrival of Leonardo Jardim in Monaco and had already been involved, without success, in takeover attempts in Valenciennes and Saint-Étienne.

And the negotiations are now “more than advanced”, again according to the Team. Beyond a simple letter of intent. Behind Tavares, the project would therefore bring together French and Portuguese investors, with an objective which could be closer to the 100 million euros claimed by Waldemar Kita.
