An abnormally warm and wet winter is expected in Russia due to El Niño

An abnormally warm and wet winter is expected across most of Russia. This was announced by leading specialist of the Phobos weather center Evgeny Tishkovets in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to the forecaster, temperatures on average may exceed the norm by three to four degrees, and the warming will be most noticeable in Central Russia and the southern regions. The maximum deviation from climatic values ​​is expected in February, and precipitation in January may be 30-40 percent above normal.

Tishkovets called the reason for this scenario the climatic phenomenon El Niño - warming of waters in the central and eastern parts of the equatorial Pacific Ocean. According to the meteorologist, it can lead to not only a warm, but also a wet winter. The Russians were promised not only thaws and heavy snowfalls. The weather forecaster warned of possible snow storms, fog and ice. According to him, sudden changes in weather can lead to problems with ground transport and air travel.
