Conducted research on performance monitoring of Jongno-gu, Seoul and Bukchon special management area

Jongno-gu, Seoul (Chief Chan-jong Yoo) announced on the 10th that it will conduct a performance monitoring research service until November to objectively diagnose the effectiveness of the 'Bukchon Special Management Area' policy.

Previously, in July 2024, the district designated the Bukchon Hanok-dense area as a special management area to protect the residential environment, and restricted tourist visit hours to some areas from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Through this service, the performance of the special management area will be diagnosed from various angles, starting with an on-site survey that examines the current status of the target site, spatial characteristics, and the ratio and distribution of residential, commercial, and lodging facilities, analysis of big data such as visitor inflow, and keyword analysis before and after policy implementation.

In addition, we plan to identify policy awareness, acceptability, perceived effects, and requirements through changes in commercial district structure, analysis of domestic and foreign consumption patterns, and stakeholder surveys.

Based on this, the district plans to devise a plan to supplement the system's shortcomings and establish a strategy for mid- to long-term operation of the special management area and establishment of the system.

District Mayor Yoo Chan-jong said, "Bukchon is an area where various problems such as housing, safety, transportation, and commercial areas coexist as well as tourism," and added, "The performance of the system is important, but we plan to look in detail to see if there were any inconveniences and limitations felt by residents, merchants, and tourists as traffic restrictions were applied to the site."
