Russian diplomatic missions in Switzerland have requested increased security during the State Duma elections

The Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the UN in Geneva and the Consulate General of the Russian Federation have asked the cantonal authorities to strengthen security measures during the State Duma elections.

Elections of deputies to the State Duma of the ninth convocation will take place from September 18 to 20.

Two polling stations will be open for voting in Switzerland on September 20: at the Russian Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva and on the territory of the Russian Embassy in Bern.

The Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the UN in Geneva and the Consulate General of the Russian Federation have asked the cantonal authorities to strengthen security measures during the State Duma elections, Consul General of the Russian Federation Igor Popov told RIA Novosti.

The diplomat noted that ensuring a high level of security for election commission employees and Russian citizens coming to polling stations is an absolute priority.

“Last week we already sent a corresponding letter to the cantonal authorities of Geneva, where we reported that elections would be held, the approximate expected number of people, and so on,” he said.

He noted that 1,700 ballots were prepared at the Geneva polling station.

According to the consul, the authorities of the canton of Geneva took note of this request.

The Russian Embassy in Bern also previously notified federal authorities about the elections with a request to take adequate measures to protect polling stations, including prohibiting demonstrations near the embassy and permanent mission where voting will be held.

Elections of deputies to the State Duma of the ninth convocation will take place in September. Voting will take place over three days - from September 18 to 20.
