Femicide Camponogara, Dino Keber's ex-partner speaks: "He almost killed her two days before"

"She wrote to me last April 20th to ask me if Dino had ever been violent with me and to what extent. He told me that two days earlier he had almost killed her, strangling her, and now he was trying to shift the blame onto her." The speaker is one of the ex-partners of Dino Keber, the 43-year-old who took his own life after killing his ex-girlfriend Tania Terrin, 39, in her home in Camponogara, in the Venetian area, last August 15th. The Gazzettino reports it.

The woman, who in the past had a six-year relationship with the man, in turn suffering violence, would be Keber's fifth victim, in addition to the other four already known who had reported him. The 43-year-old's ex says she ended up in the emergency room three times and only sued him once. "When I filed a complaint I also mentioned the names of some of his friends who not only knew everything, but had also separated us once when he was beating me bloody", he explains. "They intervened to save me. When they were questioned, however, they defended him. Later they told me they had lied because they didn't believe the situation was that serious."

The fear of him, he says, never went away. "Only since I learned that he took his life have I felt safe, free to go out." The woman finally observes that "it shouldn't have come to this. The right measures should have been taken first. Tania could have been saved".

"Tania Terrin's femicide, the sixth since the beginning of August, draws attention with dramatic urgency to the need to analyze in depth the context in which feminicides occur and to any critical issues in the protection network". For this reason, "serious reflection on the effectiveness of prevention and protection tools and on the ability of institutions to intervene promptly in high-risk situations" is necessary.

The complaint alone is not enough, but an "integrated protection network" is needed. This is supported by the Coordination of anti-violence centers in Emilia-Romagna, also denouncing how, "in the press and on social media", "unacceptable" comments have appeared in recent hours blaming Terrin because, according to some reconstructions, he "forgave" Dino Keber. But, adds the Coordination, "the victim's behavior can never become a justification for the violence suffered".

"The commission on femicide chaired by Valeria Valente in the last legislature - continues the note - had highlighted that in almost all cases in which a woman had been killed, anti-violence centers had not been involved. They are fundamental safeguards in women's paths". Furthermore, "hosting women in shelters, when necessary. It is essential - he concludes - to invest in training, in coordination between institutions and anti-violence centres, in risk assessment and in strengthening resources intended for prevention and protection".
