The trial of the defendant who shot his wife with a rifle in Fethiye continued

The incident took place on January 25 at a workplace in Tuzla District of Fethiye. Veli Katrancı (46) shot his wife, Hatice Katrancı (43), who was in the process of divorce, with a hunting rifle at work. Katrancı, who was seriously injured, was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Hatice Katrancı, whose treatment continues at Muğla Training and Research Hospital, lost her left leg below the knee. Katrancı's right leg, which did not respond to treatment due to tissue and nerve loss caused by pellets, was amputated below the knee approximately 7.5 months later. Veli Katrancı, who was detained after the incident, was arrested.

Following the investigation, a lawsuit was filed against Veli Katrancı for 'attempted intentional murder against his wife'. The second hearing of the case was held today at Fethiye 1st High Criminal Court. The detained defendant Veli Katrancı, party lawyers, representatives of women's associations and witnesses attended the hearing. Hatice Katrancı, whose treatment continues, did not attend the hearing.

'HE SHOOT A SECOND TIME WHEN I SHOUTED DON'T DO IT'

Hüseyin D., who worked in the coffeehouse where the incident took place, was heard as a witness at the hearing. Hüseyin D. said, "I heard gunshots from outside. When I entered, Veli Katrancı had a long-barreled rifle in his hand and pointed the gun at the woman's foot. The woman's other foot was shot. Just as I shouted 'Don't', the defendant shot a second time and slammed the door. He did not say anything to anyone, nor did he threaten."

'I APOLOGIZE TO HATİCE'

Defendant Veli Katrancı, who made his defense upon the prosecutor's request for the continuation of his detention, said, "All of this happened because I love him. Whatever the court decides is valid. I apologize to Hatice for this incident. I will support her financially in her next life, I did not want it to happen like this."

'HE FIXED THE LATCH OF THE GUN AND FIRED'

Hatice Katrancı's lawyer, Alev Öztürk, emphasized that the defendant's action cannot be considered within the scope of 'deliberate wounding' and said, "In the crime scene video, it is established that the defendant tried to fire the rifle first, could not fire the first shot because the safety latch was closed, and fired after correcting the latch. The defendant's action is the crime of 'deliberate attempt to murder'. Both of my client's legs were amputated. We will continue our struggle to punish the defendant in the most severe way."

The court board rejected the defendant's lawyer's request to evaluate the crime within the scope of injury and to release him. Taking into account the evidence in the file, the committee decided that the defendant Veli Katrancı would continue to be detained and that Hatice Katrancı would be present at the next hearing, where she was expected to be discharged, and postponed the hearing.
