Compressor disaster in Şanlıurfa: The case regarding the death of Muhammed Kendirci has started

The incident occurred in a carpentry workshop on November 14, 2025. Working as an apprentice in the workshop, Muhammed Kendirci's hands were first tied by his journeyman Habip Aksoy, then his trousers were forcibly removed and air was injected into his anus with a high-pressure compressor. Muhammed Kendirci, who was injured and collapsed, was transferred to Balıklıgöl State Hospital after his intervention at Bozova Mehmet Enver Yıldırım State Hospital and from there to Harran University Research and Application Hospital. Kendirci, who was reported to have serious damage to his internal organs, was treated in intensive care. Kendirci, who was treated in intensive care for 4 days, could not be saved despite all the intervention of the doctors.

ARRESTED

Habip Aksoy, who was detained after the incident, was released on condition of judicial control in the court where he was taken after the procedures at Bozova District Police Department. However, following the reactions shown in the virtual media and by the family to the suspect's release, a re-arrest warrant was issued for him. Aksoy, who was caught by the police while trying to escape to Gaziantep, was arrested by the court on duty to which he was referred.

The indictment prepared against Habip Aksoy was accepted by the Şanlıurfa 10th High Criminal Court. The indictment stated that the compressor used in the incident had a pressure power of 12 bars, and that if the device was used at close range, it could harm the human body even if the person was wearing clothes. It was stated that following the incident, Kendirci's abdomen became swollen and he started vomiting, and he was taken to Bozova State Hospital by Aksoy and other employees. It was also noted that since the defendant worked in a carpentry workshop, he had professional knowledge and experience about the usage characteristics of compressed air equipment and the risks it could pose, and that there was no animosity based on the past between the defendant and Muhammed Kendirci, that no element of force or threat was detected during the incident, and that the action developed suddenly.

'IT HAPPENED WHEN WE WERE JOKING'

The first hearing of the case in which Habip Aksoy was detained on charge of 'murder with possible intent against a child' was held at Şanlıurfa 10th High Criminal Court. Muhammed Kendirci's mother, Nebihe Kendirci, her relatives and lawyers, and Habip Aksoy's lawyer attended the hearing. Habip Aksoy, who was connected to the hearing via SEGBİS (Audio and Visual Information System) from the prison where he was detained, stated that he regretted it and said, "It was dusty. It happened while I was trying to clean them. We were joking at the time. My goal was not to kill him. I regret it."

'WE WILL NOT STOP UNTIL JUSTICE IS FOUND'

Making a statement before the hearing, Muhammed Kendirci's mother, Nebihe Kendirci, reacted to her son's death being considered a 'joke' or an 'accident'. Kendirci said, "We are followers of justice to ensure that those who took our children from us with a 12 bar pressure killing machine receive the punishment they deserve. We call on all sensitive public, child rights advocates and everyone who believes in justice to speak out. Do not remain silent. We will not stop until justice is served."

The court decided to continue Habip Aksoy's detention and postponed the hearing. Kendirci family reacted to the defendant and his lawyer's request for judicial control and house arrest at the end of the hearing. Kendirci family members felt ill from time to time in front of the courthouse after the hearing.
