Rostec and Standard Electric created passive fire protection for buildings

The RT-Project Technologies company of the Rostec State Corporation, together with its technology partner Standard Electric, has created passive protection for social and industrial facilities.

The developed system includes a complex of smart materials that automatically trigger in the event of a fire, expand and create a barrier that prevents the spread of fire and smoke.

The Russian development can be used at very low temperatures and is already used at a number of facilities in Russia.

MOSCOW, September 29 - RIA Novosti. The Rostec company and Standard Electric have created a system of expanding materials for fire protection of buildings, the press service of the state corporation reported.

“The RT-Project Technologies company of the Rostec State Corporation, together with its technology partner Standard Electric, has created passive protection for social and industrial facilities. The solution includes a set of smart materials that prevent fire and smoke from spreading through utilities,” the statement says.

The development, which, unlike foreign analogues, can be used at very low temperatures and is suitable for the Far North, will be presented for the first time at the INNOPROM. Belarus exhibition in Minsk.

Passive fire protection materials do not manifest themselves in any way in everyday work, but operate automatically in the event of a fire. The developers noted that when heated, they foam, increase in volume and tightly seal holes around cables, pipes and air ducts.

“As a result, fire and smoke cannot pass through the walls and ceilings into adjacent rooms due to the formation of a heavy-duty foam coke barrier. This gives time for the evacuation of people and the work of fire departments,” Rostec said.

The Russian development has a higher expansion coefficient when triggered than its foreign counterparts. The system can be installed both at a facility under construction and in already fully erected buildings.

General Director of RT-Project Technologies Vasily Zyuykov, quoted by the press service, noted that the delivery kits include not only thermally expanding material, but also a whole system of components - gels, mastics, tapes, strands, panels, blocks, which in the event of a fire work as a single mechanism. Due to this, you can select a solution for different types of communications - cable, ventilation, pipeline and mixed.

“The solution has undergone comprehensive testing, including a real fire of high complexity. 100% compliance with the declared characteristics has been demonstrated. The system is in demand in Russia and is already used at a number of facilities,” Zyuykov said.
