Pampas deer cub is rescued from forest fire in Palmas

A pampas deer calf was rescued from a forest fire in rural Palmas. The animal is being treated at the Tocantins Institute of Fauna and Flora (Cefau). According to fire brigade Denis Camilo, after leaving the flames the puppy received water to alleviate the effects of the heat.

"I saw the little animal jumping and hiding in a clump of dry grass. The fire was already very close. I ran towards it and managed to catch it quickly. It was very gratifying to be able to rescue this animal, to be able to somewhat alleviate the destruction of the fire", he said.

The large fire occurred in the São João I region on August 25th. The team went to the location after seeing a large smoke screen. Arriving there, he found an intense fire scene, fueled by the strong wind and the large amount of dry vegetation.

After rescuing and hydrating the animal, it was placed safely inside the vehicle while the team continued to fight the flames (watch the video above).

"As soon as I left that area where he was hiding, the fire took over that entire area. There was just enough time to grab the animal and run away so the fire wouldn't reach us", commented Denis.

After the operation, the brigade members called the Palmas Metropolitan Environmental Guard, which was responsible for sending the puppy to specialized care. He continues to receive treatment until he is able to return to his natural habitat.
