Nepalese rescue forces successfully rescued women after 10 days of floods, the death toll increased to 1,375

Nepalese rescue forces successfully rescued a woman from a buried house, 10 days after the flash flood disaster.

Mrs. Chandrika Shrestha, 64 years old, was brought out of her buried house in Nuwakot district on September 5 amid cheers from the Nepal police force.

"A police team found the woman while clearing the area. She was transported by helicopter to the capital Kathmandu for treatment," said deputy police chief Iqbal Hawari.

Images released by the police show that only the roof and a corner of the upper floor of the house are still sticking out of the ground, while the entire lower part has sunk under a thick layer of mud.

A Chinese national worker named Lu Haitao was rescued the same day from a hydroelectric tunnel in Nepal, where hundreds of people were trapped, bringing rare hope amid the rubble.

Lu said he tried to attract the rescuers' attention for days, calling for help every time he saw lights. "Whenever I see the lights on, I scream 'everyone!' really big. Maybe they didn't hear me. Today when they came to save me, even though the light was shining right in front of me, I still couldn't believe it was true," he said.

Two workers were rescued on September 4 from another hydroelectric plant, after Nepali rescue forces worked continuously around the clock in challenging conditions.

Besides the rescue miracles, the number of people killed by the flash flood disaster on August 26 continues to increase.

Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Agency announced that authorities have found 1,344 bodies, while about 5,000 people are still missing. In China, state media said 31 people were killed and 531 people were missing in the Tibet autonomous region due to the impact of flash floods.

The total number of deaths due to the flash flood disaster is currently 1,375 people, with more than 5,500 people missing.
