Flight operations at Luxembourg Airport temporarily suspended due to drone sightings

Due to the sighting of unauthorized drones, flight operations at Luxembourg Airport were temporarily suspended overnight. “As a precautionary measure and in accordance with applicable security protocols, the airspace was immediately closed to ensure the safety of passengers, crews, airport staff and aircraft,” said a statement from the Interministerial Drone Assessment Cell.

A total of 19 incoming flights were diverted to other airports. “After two inspections that ruled out any immediate risk to flight safety, airport operations resumed at around 1:20 a.m.,” it said.

According to the information, the so-called interministerial assessment cell then met to assess the situation and examine appropriate follow-up measures. This is a government coordination body that becomes active in crises. Prime Minister Luc Frieden therefore convened several responsible ministers as well as affected authorities and services.
