In the South, the entry of a mass of polar air drops temperatures and is already favoring frost in several places.
❄️ UNDERSTAND: A cold front is the area between a mass of colder air and another of warmer air. As cold air advances, warm, humid air is forced to rise, which favors the formation of clouds and rain. After the system passes, colder air gains space and helps bring down temperatures.
The freezing air remains over the country on Monday (7), the Independence holiday, and is expected to gradually lose intensity from Tuesday (8).
According to Climatempo, the sharpest drop in temperatures between this Sunday and the holiday reaches the three southern states, as well as areas of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso and Goiás. Rondônia and Acre should also feel some relief from the heat.
"This weekend, the system should cause a lot of rain in São Paulo and storms in Rio de Janeiro", says César Soares, meteorologist at Climatempo.
"The high volume of rain could cause flooding in both states. At the end of the holiday, on Monday, the forecast is also very cold."
The rain, on the other hand, remains spread across a large swath of the country. The cold front continues to act over the Southeast, Central-West and part of the North this Sunday and advances towards Bahia on Monday.
The circulation of moisture associated with the system also favors storms in points further north.
In the South, the main highlight of this Sunday is no longer the rain, but the cold. The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) predicts frost in the south and southwest of Paraná, in the mid-west and mountains of Santa Catarina and in the center-south of Rio Grande do Sul. In the north and east of Paraná, rain and thunderstorms are still forecast.
Temperatures remain low from the early hours of the day. Curitiba (PR) and Porto Alegre (RS) may record lows close to 6°C.
In the capital of Paraná, the predicted maximum is around 14°C. Polar air also opens up the possibility of temperatures below 0°C in areas of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, especially in the mountains and at higher points.
On Monday, the forecast indicates a new cold and frosty dawn in much of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, as well as the center-south and southwest of Paraná. Curitiba (PR) and Porto Alegre (RS) may dawn around 5°C.
In the Southeast, the cold front keeps the weather closed and rainy this Sunday. São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo will have showers in several areas, and there is the possibility of heavy rain and thunderstorms in part of the region.
In São Paulo, the rain mainly reaches the center, north and east of the state. Baixada Santista, Greater São Paulo, Vale do Paraíba and the coast are among the areas that can receive higher volumes. The cold is also becoming more intense.
In the city of São Paulo (SP), Climatempo predicts a rainy Sunday, between 11°C and 14°C, in addition to an even lower thermal sensation in some periods. Monday remains cold, around 10°C to 13°C, with lots of clouds and the possibility of drizzle.
Rio de Janeiro will also have a rainy Sunday. In the capital, Climatempo predicts a maximum of 22°C, well below the temperatures recorded before the arrival of the cold front. The weather remains rainy during the day and night, and Monday is expected to be even colder.
The rain also spreads across the Serrana region, Costa Verde and southern Rio de Janeiro. The combination of a lot of cloudiness, precipitation and the arrival of colder air keeps temperatures low during the holiday.
Minas Gerais enters the rain zone this Sunday. The blows reach the center-south, Zona da Mata, Vale do Rio Doce, Triângulo Mineiro and the west of the state. Belo Horizonte (MG) may have heavy rain throughout the day and a maximum of around 26°C. On Monday, the temperature drops further, and the maximum is close to 21°C.
In Espírito Santo, cloudiness increases and rain spreads mainly across the south of the state this Sunday.

In the Central-West, Sunday will be marked by rain in practically the entire region. Mato Grosso, Goiás, Distrito Federal and much of Mato Grosso do Sul may experience showers and thunderstorms. The main difference appears in the center-south of Mato Grosso, where the polar air already reduces temperatures significantly.
In Campo Grande (MS), the drop is sharp. The forecast indicates a Sunday of low temperatures by local standards, and the cold will remain on Monday.
Colder air also reaches the south and southwest of Mato Grosso and areas of southern Goiás.
Cuiabá (MT), which recorded strong heat before the cold front passed, also feels a significant reduction this Sunday.
The maximum predicted by Inmet does not exceed 26°C. Goiânia (GO) can still reach close to 31°C.
North will have rain and strong heat
In the North Region, the cold front does not cause a general drop in temperatures, but helps to increase areas of rain this Sunday. Acre, Rondônia, Amazonas and southwest Pará will have showers and thunderstorms at different times of the day.
There is also the possibility of more isolated rain in the center-west of Roraima, in areas of Amapá, in the southeast of Pará and in the center-north of Tocantins. In the north of Pará, including Belém (PA), the forecast indicates many clouds, but without significant rain.
The heat remains strong in most of the Amazon. Manaus (AM) can reach 37°C, Boa Vista (RR) 36°C and Belém (PA) 35°C. Porto Velho (RO), under greater cloudiness and indirect influence of colder air, will have slightly lower temperatures.
The contrast increases during the holidays. On Monday, rain remains frequent in Amazonas and also appears in western Acre, southern Pará and Tocantins. In the southeast of Acre and in the south and southwest of Rondônia, the advance of colder air causes a drop in temperature.

In the Northeast, heat and dry weather still prevail in much of the region this Sunday. The interior of Piauí, Ceará, Pernambuco and northern Bahia will have few clouds and high temperatures.
The rain appears mainly in the east of Paraíba and Pernambuco, on the north coast of Alagoas, in the south of Maranhão and in the extreme west of Bahia.
Areas close to Luís Eduardo Magalhães (BA), Correntina (BA), Balsas (MA) and Alto Parnaíba (MA) may record isolated showers.
The heat will be strong in all northeastern capitals. Teresina (PI) could reach 39°C this Sunday. Salvador (BA), Recife (PE), Maceió (AL) and Fortaleza (CE) are close to 32°C.
The influence of the cold front becomes more evident in Bahia during the holiday.
On Monday, there is a forecast of rain and thunderstorms in the southwest of the state, mainly in the Correntina region, in addition to showers on the south coast and the possibility of rain in other areas of central-south Bahia.
Even so, much of the Northeast will have sun during the 7th of September. Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, part of Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe and northern Bahia are under a predominance of firm weather.
