THE FUNERALS
At 5pm in Squinzano, in the province of Lecce, the funeral of Lorena Isceri was celebrated. The last farewell to the woman, killed by her ex-partner on the A1 motorway, took place in the Maria Regina church, in the home town of the 45-year-old who had lived in Florence for years.

FEMINICIDE
Lorena Isceri was killed by her ex-partner Federico Vella, who threw her from an A1 overpass after kidnapping her from her home in Florence and locking her in the trunk. Then the man also took his own life by throwing himself into the void.

THE WHITE COFFIN AND THE RED BALLOONS
The funeral was held in the Maria Regina church, where the woman had been baptized as a child. After the funeral, the white coffin left the church to applause, while in the square friends let red and white balloons fly. Accompanying the coffin to the hearse were, among others, his father Franco, his mother Antonietta and his brother Danilo.

THE COFFIN
From Florence, Lorena Isceri's coffin arrived this morning in front of the Maria Regina church, in Squinzano, for the funeral home. In the town of Salento, where the woman was born, the 45-year-old often returned for holidays even though she had lived in Florence for years. The church where the funeral took place is the same one where she was baptized.

THE WHITE COFFIN
The white coffin was welcomed in silence in the morning, followed by family and close relatives. Lorena Isceri's mother, Antonietta, held her daughter's white teddy bear in her arms, which had been given to her when she was a child: in the afternoon, after the funeral, the stuffed animal was placed on the coffin. Father Franco, who in recent days launched an appeal to unite against violence, was also in tears.

THE BANNER
The community of Squinzano, a town in Salento where Lorena Isceri was born 45 years ago and where she returned for the holidays, has rallied around the family in recent days. "Lorena you grew up with us, now you walk in the light, but you will remain forever here, where you are loved", is the banner that the friends have posted on a wall in front of the church.

THE CROWD AT THE FUNERAL
Many people attended the funeral. The naves of the church were full, while a giant screen was set up in the churchyard to allow the crowd remaining outside to take part in the celebration. In the church, in addition to the family and friends of the 45-year-old, there were representatives of many institutions, including the president of the Province of Lecce and around forty Salento mayors wearing the tricolor sash.

THE HOMILY
During the homily, the parish priest Don Vanni Bisconti reiterated: "There is an abysmal difference between love and possession, between love and control, between love and jealousy, between love and demands, between love and the right to decide on the life of another. And we must say it clearly, especially to young people: if a person says no to you, that no must be respected. If a person decides not to continue a relationship he is not taking away from you something that belongs to you. Because the other does not belong to us."

THE FAMILY
Accompanying the coffin to the hearse were, among others, his father Franco, his mother Antonietta and his brother Danilo. "We are here also because we would like, if it were possible, to take a piece of the pain of this family", the parish priest said in his homily.

THE ROADS
Bows, ribbons, roses and red balloons have been placed in recent hours on the balconies, doors and gates of all the houses in Via de Pietro, where the Isceri family lives, and in the streets leading from the house to the Maria Regina church, where the funeral was celebrated.
