After months of study and preparation, students face the first phase of Fuvest 2027 this Sunday (1st). In São Carlos (SP), 2,423 candidates are registered for the entrance exam, which is one of the main gateways to the University of São Paulo (USP).
The tests are administered at the School of Engineering, with 601 candidates, and at the Centro Universitário Central Paulista (Unicep), which receives another 1,822 applicants. In the region, Pirassununga (SP) also receives candidates for the first phase, with another 1,043 registered.
Across the state, 106,165 candidates participate in Fuvest 2027. Of this total, 93,828 compete for one of the 8,147 places at USP, while another 12,337 take the test as trainers.
Student Ana Clara Pinheiro José, 18 years old, arrived at Unicep at 10:45 am, more than an hour before the official opening of the gates at 12 pm. Born in São Carlos, she is taking the entrance exam for the first time and is still divided between the Biology and Pharmacy courses.
“I've been here since 6 am preparing everything; I arrived early because I didn't want to run the risk of getting stuck in the crowd,” he said.
Ana Clara's preparation was carried out at a full-time school, complemented by an evening course. She highlighted the influence of the teachers, the entrance exam material provided by the school and the encouragement of two cousins who passed in Pharmacy.
“Since I was little, I dreamed of studying biology; my teachers motivated me, and my cousins inspired me to choose Pharmacy,” she said.
The student from Araraquara (SP) Guilherme Thummel, aged 18, faces Fuvest for the second time. After participating in the entrance exam previously, he comes to the new attempt with the aim of gaining a place in the Medicine course.
For him, Natural Sciences and Mathematics issues should be among the main challenges of assessment.
“The test is usually very content-based, the heaviest part must be Nature and Mathematics, but I prepared very well and I hope to do a good test”, he said.
To face the five hours of assessment, Guilherme relies on tranquility, short breaks and faith. For him, studying Medicine represents more than a professional choice: it is a “priesthood”.
"USP has enormous importance, this course stands out as one of the best in the country. I am more confident and prepared to transform the effort of a whole year into a place in the second phase", he added.
Student Giovana Caneppel, aged 20, also participates in Fuvest for the second time. Her goal is to gain a place on the Architecture course.
Among the challenges of the test, she points out Mathematics as one of the main concerns, but hopes to find less complicated questions than in the previous edition.
“For me, the hardest part will be Mathematics, but I hope it won’t be as complicated as last year,” he said.
The preparation was based on solving previous Fuvest tests, in addition to constant studies throughout the year. Even though she is studying Architecture at a private university, Giovana maintains her dream of entering a public institution.
"USP has enormous weight and will add a lot to my CV. I've always liked architecture, all the aesthetics and art involved", he said.
The gates to the test sites open at 12pm and close at 1pm. The assessment lasts five hours, and candidates can leave the buildings from 4pm.
The first phase will have 80 multiple-choice questions, 10 less than the 90 applied until last year. Despite the reduction, the test time remains the same: five hours.
The change accompanies the expansion of the interdisciplinarity of the content. The proposal is to prioritize questions that require candidates to be able to relate knowledge from different areas.
The assessment seeks to identify important skills for university life, such as reading and interpreting different types of text, in addition to basic knowledge in human, biological, exact sciences and foreign language.
The questions address the mandatory High School subjects: Art, Biology, Physical Education, Philosophy, Physics, Geography, History, English, Mathematics, Portuguese, Chemistry and Sociology. Each question is worth one point.
Candidates must present an identification document, physical or digital, and a ballpoint pen with blue or black ink, with a transparent body.
It is also allowed to take some optional items: bottle of water; light foods; pencil or mechanical pencil; rubber; sharpener; transparent ruler; previously authorized medical items.
It will not be permitted to use: watches of any type; electronic equipment, such as cell phones, calculators, computers, tablets, audio players and cameras; wearable devices, such as smartwatches, electronic glasses and electronic points; printed or note-taking material; felt-tip pens or other types other than ballpoint pens; concealers of any kind; highlighter pen, compass or pencil with multiplication table; beanie, cap, hat or similar; sunglasses; ear protectors, headphones or similar; other materials that are not permitted for the test.
