Gas leak at the freight station in Aschaffenburg causes large-scale operations

Rescue workers are currently on a large-scale operation due to a gas leak from a tank car at the Aschaffenburg freight station. Initially nothing was known about anyone injured. According to previous information from the city, the odorless noble gas argon was released. Argon is not poisonous, but can displace oxygen in poorly ventilated rooms and therefore pose a risk of suffocation. There is no danger to the population.

After the alarm, the fire brigade first arrived because a white cloud could be seen on the car and it was initially assumed that there was a fire. But then there were indications of gas.

Due to the changed situation, the fire department requested additional units of an ABC dangerous goods train. According to the information, the affected area is currently being examined and the tank car will then be sealed. At the same time, clearance measurements take place. Track traffic in the Elsässer Straße area was closed.
