Journalism organizations described the T24 access ban decision as a serious attack

Journalism professional organizations made a joint statement regarding the access ban decision on the T24 news portal.

The statement included the following statements:

"While we are going through difficult times in which our democracy, the principles of the rule of law and freedom of the press are gradually being eroded, we describe the decision to close down t24, which is the most read news portal in our country, employs dozens of press workers and is one of the most established news portals, on unfounded grounds, contrary to the law and the constitution, as a serious attack on our profession.

The 'My Family is Safe' investigation, which was cited as a reason for closure, has targeted freedom of the press and expression since the first day, one of our colleagues was arrested, and access to news sites, our colleagues' social media accounts and some websites were blocked. The decision to close the t24 news portal is not only a serious violation of the government's freedom of press and expression, but also directly hinders the citizens' right to receive news. We believe that this decision should be reversed immediately. We announce that we will continue to defend our profession and our colleagues against these attacks against our profession."

The joint statement was signed by the European Union of Journalists Turkey Representation, Press Council, DİSK Basın-İş, Contemporary Journalists Association, Dicle Fırat Journalists Association, Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Economy Correspondents Association, Journalists Association, İzmir Journalists Association, KESK Haber-Sen, Media and Legal Studies Association, Turkish Journalists Union and International Press Institute.
