34-year-old Demir, who lives in Ankara, started to experience severe abdominal pain that did not respond to medications in the 20th week of her pregnancy. During the ultrasound evaluation of Demir, who was admitted to the hospital after her pain gradually increased, an approximately 25-centimeter mass developing in the uterus was detected. Gynecology and Obstetrics Specialist Prof. who performed Demir's surgery. Dr. Polat Dursun said in his statement that they made the decision for surgery due to the size of the mass and the risks it poses during pregnancy.

Dursun stated that it is not possible to continue the pregnancy with a mass of this size and severe pain, and that there is a risk of losing the uterus and premature birth during the surgery. Dursun stated that after they decided that the patient could not continue the pregnancy in this way, they made the surgical decision by explaining the risks and benefits, and said, "During the surgery, we removed the 25-centimeter mass inside the uterus and the uterus containing the baby out of the abdomen. There were many risks during this time." he said.

Dursun pointed out that masses of this size are rare during pregnancy and explained that the mass extends from the pelvis area to the liver level and narrows the area where the baby will develop. Dursun said that they followed the expectant mother and the baby closely after the surgery and stated that the pathology result of the removed mass was reported as a malignant tumor.

Stating that the mother was given the necessary medications to reduce the risk of premature birth during this process, Dursun said, "In the meantime, new masses developed in the uterus. We were able to reach the 38th week of pregnancy. We both performed a cesarean section and removed these newly formed masses. The development of a mass of this size in the uterus during pregnancy is very rarely reported in the scientific literature, both in Türkiye and in the world." he said.

Dursun stated that the risk of premature birth is inevitable if a mass develops in the uterus during pregnancy and said, "The size of the mass narrows the area in which the baby can develop. The baby cannot find space to develop. Premature birth would definitely develop and it would be very difficult for the baby to hold on to life, depending on the week of birth." gave the information.
