Japan, alert for the most disastrous earthquake in history: but it was a mistake

The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a warning for a magnitude 9.9 earthquake that would hit much of the country, including Tokyo. An alarm for what could have been the strongest earthquake ever recorded in the world: just consider that the one that caused the Fukushima disaster in 2011 had a magnitude of 9.0. The alert was later withdrawn because it was an error.

The shock

In fact, the earthquake occurred, but the recorded magnitude was 6.9. As reported by Il Post, it happened at 12.38 local time (5.38 in Italy) at sea, about 1,200 kilometers north-east of the Japanese island of Hokkaido, in the north of the country.
