Giorgia Meloni becomes Italy's longest-serving prime minister

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will celebrate his right-wing coalition government becoming the longest-serving administration in the country's post-war history with a major event in Bari on Friday.

Meloni's time at the head of the same government reached 1,413 days, surpassing former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's record of 1,412 days.

In Italy, where 68 different governments have served in the last 80 years, many administrations ended prematurely due to political crises and the departure of coalition partners. Meloni, on the other hand, managed to keep his government together despite the crises within the coalition parties.

The celebration, organized by the Brothers of Italy (FdI) party led by Meloni, will be held in Bari, the capital of the Puglia region in the south of the country.

According to organizers, supporters will be transported to the city with approximately 80 buses. An area in Bari Port that can host up to 10 thousand people has been prepared for the event.

The event, which will be held with the slogan "The Most Stable Government, The Strongest Italy", will start with traditional Puglia light shows and DJ performances.

Meloni is expected to address the crowd in the evening, while Deputy Prime Ministers Matteo Salvini and Antonio Tajani are scheduled to attend the event via video link.

The celebration is also expected to serve as a rally before the elections planned to be held in 2027.

The event is expected to highlight the steps taken by the Meloni government during its nearly four-year rule.

The government lists among its important achievements the employment of more than one million people and a total reduction of 21 billion euros in personal income taxes during this period.

It is stated that there has been a significant improvement in the financial stability of Italy, which has high public debt.

However, opponents argue that financial stability is not sufficiently reflected in economic growth and the living conditions of citizens.

Meloni argues that Rome's international influence increased during his rule.

The government coalition has implemented nearly 300 laws and decrees to date.

It was stated that most of these were related to issues that the government considers under the heading of "security", from small-scale crimes to unauthorized parties and climate protests.

The Brothers of Italy, who won the 2022 elections with the promise of fighting against illegal immigration, argue that the number of irregular immigrants coming to the country has decreased by 80 percent thanks to the policies implemented.
