Search efforts continue for the Fleet Jet ship that sank off the coast of Kyrenia.

In the written statement made by the Prime Ministry of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Üstel reminded that the search for the missing passengers after the ship sank off the coast of Kyrenia continues and noted that additional opportunities and capacities were evaluated during their contacts with Turkey.

Üstel pointed out that military ships affiliated with the Turkish Naval Forces continue their search operations uninterruptedly and thanked the search and rescue personnel who showed great dedication.

In his statement, TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel stated that, in addition to the search for passengers lost after the ship sank off the coast of Kyrenia, a private company that is specialized in deep water searches and has the necessary technical capacity has been authorized, and said, "In this context, technical and operational preparations have begun. The next process will continue under the coordination of the relevant institutions and in line with the determined road map." he said.

SHIP SINKING IN KYRENIA

The high-speed passenger ship named "Fleet Jet", which was operating between Kyrenia Port in TRNC and Taşucu Port in Mersin, started to take in water from its front part shortly after departing from Kyrenia at noon on Sunday, August 30, and sank while trying to return to Kyrenia Port.

TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel pointed out that there were a total of 267 passengers and crew on the ship and stated that 239 people were rescued after the ship sank.

While it was reported that the wreckage of the sunken ship was found at a depth of 554 meters off the coast of Kyrenia, 14 passengers on the ship lost their lives and efforts are continuing to find 14 people.
