Two Saudi Arabian super tankers were attacked by unidentified objects near the Strait of Hormuz

Two Saudi super tankers were attacked by unidentified objects a few minutes apart while leaving the Strait of Hormuz.

The super crude oil tanker (VLCC) named Sidr, flying the flag of Saudi Arabia, was hit by unidentified objects about 30 km northeast of Khasab city in Oman at 11:52 p.m. on August 31, according to maritime tracking and data analysis company Marisks.

Just a few minutes later, the super tanker Senegal Prosperity, flying the Liberian flag, hit three unidentified objects nearly 32 km east of Khasab. Marisks said all sailors on board are safe.

"The incidents that occurred almost simultaneously show that the threat level in the shipping lane near Oman continues to escalate," Marisks said.

Maritime data company Kpler said each of the above superships received 2 million barrels of Saudi Arabian crude oil at Juaymah port last week. Saudi Aramco resumed loading and selling oil from inside the strait in August.

Bahri, the operator of the Sidr ship, and Sinokor, the operator of the Senegal Prosperity ship, have not commented on the above information.

Iranian media reported on September 1 that a Saudi oil tanker was stopped while "passing through the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz", referring to the route through Oman's territorial waters.

On August 31, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGC) also said that a super tanker hit two mines while trying to pass through the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has almost completely blockaded Hormuz and forced ships to pass through the Northern corridor controlled by the IRGC. Several ships recently passed through the southern corridor near Oman after receiving encouragement and protection from the US navy. Iran has repeatedly warned ships about the consequences of using routes that Tehran considers "illegal".
