California Department of Public Health warns of salmonella outbreak in Happy Hens eggs

The California Department of Public Health is warning of a salmonella outbreak and urging people not to eat or sell Happy Hens eggs.

Happy Hens has voluntarily recalled several batches of eggs that were sent to restaurants, grocery stores and farmers' markets in Southern California and the Central Coast.

At the moment, 23 cases of infection have been registered, seven people have been hospitalized, and there have been no deaths.

WASHINGTON, September 13 – RIA Novosti. The California Department of Public Health is warning consumers and businesses not to eat or sell Happy Hens eggs due to a salmonella outbreak amid 23 reported cases.

Ramona, Calif.-based Happy Hens on Tuesday voluntarily recalled several shipments of eggs that had previously been distributed to restaurants, grocery stores and farmers' markets in Southern California and the Central Coast.

"The California Department of Public Health is working with local health authorities to ensure that recalled products are not available for purchase by consumers," the agency said in a statement.

As of Tuesday, 23 Californians were reported affected by the outbreak. Seven people were hospitalized and there were no reports of deaths. The department notes that as this outbreak is considered ongoing, more cases may be identified.
