Harvey Weinstein awaits new sentence for sexual assault

A new sentence for sexual assault against Harvey Weinstein is expected today. The disgraced movie mogul at the center of abuse allegations that spurred the MeToo movement in Hollywood is likely to be convicted again for abuse of a former production assistant.

The facts of which he is accused

The seventy-four year old risks at least twenty years in prison for having forced Miriam Haley to undergo oral sex in 2006. She is one of dozens of women who have accused the producer of "Pulp Fiction" and "Shakespeare in Love" of violence. Weinstein had been sentenced to 23 years in 2020 for sexual assault but the sentence was overturned on appeal in 2024. In 2025 a jury found the producer guilty again after a further trial in New York.

Haley told reporters that "the defense's attitude of blaming the victim and deliberately distorting the truth has been exhausting and at times dehumanizing, but today's verdict gives me hope, hope that there is a new awareness of sexual violence and that the myth of the 'perfect victim' is fading."
