Sente Labs' OpenExecutive multi-agent AI system can automate and effectively support management work for CEOs.
Gadget Now reported on September 7 that a group of software engineers at Sente Labs developed an open source project called OpenExecutive to explore the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in automating leadership roles. This project creates an AI executive board capable of supporting senior management work such as CEOs or business directors. Developers want to prove AI can handle tasks previously handled by senior leaders. Legally, OpenExecutive cannot become the CEO of a company, but its design raises new questions about the extent to which AI can participate in decision-making in the enterprise.
OpenExecutive operates as a multi-agent AI system instead of relying on a single model to handle all business problems. According to the development team's description, the user communicates with a representative AI called "operator", whose role is to divide the work or consult with 8 expert agents in the fields of strategy, finance, human resources, legal, operations, marketing, product management and communication with the board of directors, and then provide aggregated feedback. This approach avoids the user from receiving eight conflicting suggestions from each separate agent.
PCMag says the project uses Anthropic's Claude models, including Sonnet 4.6 for general work and Opus 4.7 for more complex inference tasks. OpenExecutive can automatically track emails, competitors, financial reports, and internal data. The system can retrieve company documents as context, while SQLite-based recall memory helps store decision history. Thanks to that, the AI system will act like a continuously working CEO instead of a chatbot always starting from the beginning when someone messages. Every morning, OpenExecutive prepares a work summary, strategy proposal, or presentation for the leader to approve, edit, or cancel.
The motivation for developing OpenExecutive goes beyond a technological experiment. According to Futurism, Sente Labs' own engineering team admitted they had been affected by AI-driven restructuring and wanted to build a system focused on automating work at the highest levels of the organization. What managers and executives do when processing information (analyzing financial and performance data, setting priorities, and making recommendations) seems to coincide with what AI does today. The OpenExecutive project could create a reversal as the very corporate leaders pushing for AI use and layoffs face the risk of being replaced.
OpenExecutive demonstrates that AI can analyze and support some parts of the leadership job, but replacing a CEO in practice requires more than writing a strategy document or making financial recommendations. Business leaders need to be responsible for many decisions, legal obligations, employees, investors and the consequences of failure. Experts emphasize that current AI systems cannot assume the legal responsibilities associated with leadership positions.
