Germany summit: France as a role model: “Choose France summits have shown how you can attract investments into the country through a good atmosphere”

Despite the debt and budget crisis, France is spreading a better mood in the search for international capital than Germany. At the Germany summit, experts such as Philipp Freise from KKR emphasized the need to credibly implement reform promises in order to attract investors. France's 'Choose France' summit under Macron serves as a model, while Germany wants to address international financial investors with its Invest in Germany Summit on October 20th. Although foreign investment in Germany rose to 86 billion euros in 2025, it is behind France and Great Britain in the EY Attractiveness Barometer. Experts are calling for more mobility in the labor market and investable projects to stimulate growth.

Today: Merz at the Germany summit: Pension reform is the “most important political reform” – Porsche’s desire for luxury

Porsche CEO Michael Leiters announced at Capital Markets Day that he would make the company smaller, more exclusive and more profitable, with some models potentially costing up to 13 million euros. At the same time, Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) warned at the Germany summit against giving his vote to the AfD, as this was playing the extremists' game and destroying credibility, after an AfD MP in Saxony-Anhalt was elected president of the state parliament.

DAX falls back again

The DAX lost 1.35 percent to 25,104 points, but remained above the 25,000 mark. Rising oil prices due to a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico and Houthi attacks, as well as troubled bond markets, particularly in France, weighed on investors. At the same time, German industrial production showed a surprise 2.0 percent increase in August, while US investors took profits and the automotive sector benefited from short-term protective measures against Chinese hybrid cars.
