The Netherlands will return to Eurovision in 2027 under the leadership of NPO

On Wednesday, the Dutch public media coordinating organization, NPO, announced that the Netherlands would return to participate in Eurovision in 2027. Let us remind you that this country did not take part in the competition in 2026, which was the result of the decision of the current broadcaster, AVROTROS. The reasons for the withdrawal were Israel's presence in the competition, the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, and controversies over press freedom.

New organizer, new rules

In 2027, the Netherlands' participation in Eurovision will no longer be the responsibility of AVROTROS, but directly of NPO - the Dutch Public Broadcasting Organization. The NPO will appoint a special team that will select the representative and prepare him to perform on the Eurovision stage.

Broadcasts of the semi-finals and the final, as well as commentary, will be prepared by NOS - a public broadcaster specializing in news and coverage of the most important events.

Back to the inclusive values of Eurovision

The decision to return the Netherlands to the competition was made after NPO talks with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Both sides stressed that Eurovision should again place greater emphasis on its inclusive nature, bringing together different cultures and nations.

The head of NPO Jet de Ranitz admitted that participation in Eurovision still arouses mixed feelings in the Netherlands, but public media want to actively participate in shaping the future of this event.
