Hunter Biden hints at possible 2028 presidential run, cites rule of law as key qualification

Former US President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden has suggested that he "may have to" run for president in 2028, citing his commitment to the rule of law as his top qualification for the job. In an upcoming interview with radio host John Catsimatidis, Hunter said he could consider a presidential bid if he received Catsimatidis' endorsement. "If I get your endorsement, I may have to (run for president),"; Hunter said, adding that one of his biggest concerns was the "50 million Americans that are still suffering with their addictions." Asked about his qualifications for the presidency, Hunter pointed to his commitment to the US Constitution and the rule of law. "Here is my qualification for becoming president: if you believe in the Constitution of the United States of America that you swear to uphold and protect. I want the next president to commit to one thing: to adhering to the rule of law," he said. However, Hunter stopped short of committing to a presidential run, saying Democrats have an "incredible bench." "I love Gavin Newsom, personally," he said. Hunter had also joked about entering politics and running for president in 2028 in June. During an upcoming episode of California Governor Gavin Newsom's programme, "This Is Gavin Newsom", Newsom playfully introduced Hunter as "Presidential candidate Hunter Biden." A presidential run would mark Hunter Biden's first entry into the country's political leadership after his earlier career in the US Navy ended in 2014 following a positive cocaine test at the age of 44. The Delaware-born artist has previously been at the centre of political controversy over material from his laptop, which was published by The Post and included allegations that he had used his father's position as vice president to benefit his family. The laptop also contained explicit photographs and material related to drug use and was cited as evidence in Hunter's federal gun and tax cases. On December 1, 2024, President Joe Biden issued a full and unconditional pardon to his son, covering all offences committed between 2014 and 2024. The pardon absolved Hunter of his federal tax and firearms charges, effectively ending his legal battles.
