Elderly man found dead after fire in house full of rubble in Curitiba

According to firefighters, the property had a large amount of trash and debris, both inside the house and on the land, which made access and movement for teams difficult. The elderly man's body was found with the help of a backhoe provided by Curitiba City Hall, beneath approximately three meters of burnt material.

After removing the debris, the body was sent to the Legal Medical Institute (IML). The Military Police and Scientific Police were also called to the scene.

The Fire Department reported that the elderly man's house was made of masonry, but that there were recyclable materials throughout the area and inside. The man lived alone there. The fire spread quickly and completely destroyed the residence. Approximately 80 thousand liters of water were needed to fight the flames.

The search for the victim began on Wednesday (23), however, due to the burnt debris reaching more than three meters in some points, it was not possible to remove it manually. Work to locate the victim resumed this Thursday morning (24) and the body was found at around 11:50 am.

The incident mobilized 14 military firefighters, in addition to support from the Civil Defense and the Municipality of Curitiba, which provided a backhoe and three trucks to remove the debris.
