The court ordered that Déborah de Oliveira Ribeiro, accused of killing her own mother, undergo an examination after her defense alleged the defendant's mental insanity. She and her sister, Roberta de Oliveira Ribeiro, are under arrest on suspicion of the murder of Deise Carmem de Oliveira Ribeiro.
According to investigations, the daughters saw their mother as an "embarrassment" and the crime was motivated by an interest in gaining control over the family's finances.

According to the decision, the defense claimed that Déborah has a complex clinical and neuropsychiatric condition. In the case, records of outpatient medical care and medical records were attached. For this reason, the lawyers asked for the investigation and trial hearing to be suspended, a request that was rejected by the Court.
The information is contained in a non-confidential process. g1 requested a position from the defendants' defense, but did not receive a response until the last update of the report.
The defendant will still go through the hearing, but only after the expert report has been released. Déborah will also remain imprisoned in the Formoso do Araguaia Women's Penal Unit, according to the decision issued by judge Ana Paula Araújo, from the 1st Criminal Office of Peixe, last Monday (21).
"The documented neuropsychiatric diagnoses, in themselves, do not reflect a situation of clinical incompatibility with precautionary incarceration to justify immediate transfer to a custodial hospital or conversion to house arrest, with preventive custody remaining unchanged in the aforementioned prison unit", stated the judge.

Hearing has not been completed
Part of the instruction hearing was held last Tuesday (22), when four witnesses were heard. According to the document, due to the "exhaustion of participants and the material impossibility of concluding all oral acts", the other witnesses will be heard in November.
In addition to Roberta, Deise's husband, José Roberto Ribeiro, and her son-in-law, Mateus Viana de Oliveira, are also responsible for the criminal action. The three must be questioned on November 27th.

Deise was reported missing and, days later, her body was found floating in the river, on January 1, 2026. According to the Civil Police investigation, the businesswoman was taken to a rural area of Peixe, where she was stabbed to death and her body was thrown into the Santa Tereza River.
The case was treated as femicide by the police because Deise's death occurred in the context of domestic and family violence.
Before the murder, the daughters had bought a cell phone, which was registered in their mother's name. According to the investigation, the device was allegedly used by the daughters to send messages to relatives, posing as Deise. The intention was to convey the idea that the businesswoman had left on her own, to delay the search.
Although one of the daughters tried to pin the blame exclusively on the other, police say that technical investigations, based on signals from cell phone towers and internet connections, indicate that both were at the scene of the crime.
José Roberto Ribeiro, Deise's husband and father of the suspects, was indicted on suspicion of hindering investigations and eliminating relevant records. The police clarified that there is no evidence that he participated in the crime.
According to the records, however, he would have deleted messages and hidden the vehicle used by his daughters to transport the victim's body. José was released in April this year and is currently free.
