US judge temporarily lifts Trump's press access ban

Dusseldorf. Journalists from the media companies CNN and MS Now have been given access to the White House again. Despite a court ruling to the contrary, White House security forces denied entry on Thursday morning (local time). The Politico reporter had his press pass revoked, the magazine reported. A reporter from the MS NOW station said she had been blocked from access. CNN also reported that some employees had previously been refused entry to the site.

This happened a few hours after a federal judge temporarily overturned the entry ban imposed by US President Donald Trump. US District Judge Tim Kelly suspended the ban for an initial period of 14 days on Thursday night.

He explained that the withdrawal of accreditations would likely violate journalists' constitutional rights to due process. The judge also expressed doubts about the arguments of the US Department of Justice, which justified the ban on national security grounds. Kelly pointed out that Trump himself had stated that the ban was due to allegedly false or negative reporting.
