Djurgården won the first point of the season after dramatic overtime against Växjö

Djurgården got a cold shower at the start of the SHL season. The Stockholmers went empty-handed from the first two rounds, with six goals at the back and one forward.

During the first match of the season at Hovet, Växjö was the opposition. The visitors from Småland showed up with two odd-goal matches behind them, a loss against Frölunda and an overtime win against Malmö.

Before the third round, new acquisition Oliver Wahlstrom was ready to play and he spent only five minutes and 34 seconds scoreless in the zoo jersey.

Colby Sissons played up to the Swedish-American who drifted up towards the blue line before turning and sneaking the puck in behind Växjö's goalkeeper Ludvig Persson.

The new signing wasn't satisfied after scoring the team's first five-on-five goal of the season. After being tripped by Växjö's Jimi Suomi and winning a power play for his team, he passed to Charles Hudon who scored the game's second goal.

The second period was more even. The game went back and forth between the zones without either team creating many scoring chances.

Then Växjö got a powerplay after Marcus Krüger was sent off. It led to a neat Växjö goal. The puck went from Lucas Elvenes to Joel Persson to Brogan Rafferty whose direct shot went past zookeeper Magnus Hellberg.

Barely six minutes into the third period, the away team had a shot on goal, the return of which was picked up by Brian Cooper, who played through to Hugo Gustafsson to make it 2-2.

The command stayed with Växjö and the puck clearly spent more time in Djurgården's zone.

Nevertheless, it was Djurgården who scored the first goal of the period. A Växjö rise ended up with Lukas Vejdemo, who took the opportunity and pushed it into the far corner with five minutes left to play.

With three minutes left in the game, the referee sent Jacob Josefson to the penalty box for a hook. A decision that caused both Josefson and Hovet to explode in protest.

The bus whistles came back when Växjö scored 3-3 in a power play with one second left on the expulsion and one minute left in the match. Goal scorer: Olivier Nadeau.

“The judge, hello!?” echoed in the hall as the teams lined up to start overtime. Then the audience got to cheer.

Charles Hudon stepped up in overtime and scored his Djurgården's first two points of the season. "What will the judge do now?" chanted the crowd, before it became clear that a video review of the goal awaited.

After waiting for a while, the decision came: The goal remained. The referee judged that Nils Åman did not disturb the goalkeeper in the goal yard.
