IFRC Secretary General Chapagain Shares Estimate of 35 Thousand Deaths in European Heatwaves

Chapagain shared the issue on his account on the US-based X social media platform.

Stating that heat waves are the "silent killers" of the climate crisis, Chapagain said, "It is estimated that approximately 35 thousand people died during the heat waves across Europe this summer." he said.

Chapagain noted that the IFRC, through its Extreme Heat Initiative, helps communities prepare and adapt before disasters strike.

Secretary-General Chapagain also called for participation in the Climate Action Summit to be organized by the IFRC on 16 September to share solutions and accelerate locally-led climate action.
