Privatization decision by the government for bridges and highways

The government, which could not achieve its goals in the economy, has now put bridges and roads up for sale.

A decision was taken to privatize the 15 July Martyrs Bridge and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge on the Bosphorus, as well as many highways and ring roads.

"IT IS NOT A DECISION THAT CAN BE EXPLAINED LOGICALLY"

The decision signed by AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was published in the Official Gazette.

Economist E. Onur Çanakçı, who evaluated the decision for our newspaper, said, "This is not a decision that can be explained logically."

Drawing attention to the businesses that cannot reach their targets but constantly make losses because they have a usage guarantee, Çanakçı said, "The cost of Zafer Airport is 50 million euros. If it continues with this deviation, the money that will come out of the people's pocket until the end of the contract period will be 208 million euros. Privatizing two Bosphorus bridges that print money like mints, while places like this are making losses, needs explanation."

'EQUIVALENT TO 13 DAYS'

Referring to the claims that the sale was planned for 185 billion liras, Çanakçı continued his words as follows:

"If this claim is true, this money is equivalent to 13 days of the 453 billion lira interest we paid in January. Leaving the income of such a profitable business to private capital will increase the cost of those passing through. This mistake must be reversed as soon as possible."
