Fire and explosion in the KNDS Ammo Italy factory in Colleferro

Fire and explosion in Colleferro, in the former Simmel Difesa plant, currently owned by KNDS Ammo Italy.

The company, which is located in the Quarto Chilometro area, along Via Latina, between Colleferro and Artena, produces medium and large caliber ammunition for land and naval defense as well as solid fuels for aerospace carriers.

The accident appears to have occurred in the powder pressing department.

A loud bang was distinctly heard by residents in the area, triggering the alarm.

Rescue workers intervened on site for emergency operations and to verify what happened inside the industrial area.

Investigations are underway to reconstruct the dynamics of the explosion and establish what caused the explosion.

No casualties

There were no injuries or people involved in the explosion that affected the ammunition plant in Colleferro.

We learn this from rescuer sources according to whom the fire and subsequent explosion affected only one area of ​​the explosives and ammunition production and storage plant.

No one would be missing from the few employees present during the day, around twenty, in the plant.

The firefighters are still busy making the area safe and the Carabinieri from Colleferro and the Frascati Investigation Unit are also present on site for the investigation.

The Velletri Prosecutor's Office is proceeding with the crime of fire, the prosecutor on duty will shortly carry out an inspection.

In October 2007, a strong explosion had already occurred in the plant, then Simmel Difesa, which at the time caused one death and 13 injured workers.
