Air incident in Salon-de-Provence: A training plane catches fire after an emergency landing

The barely believable story could have had much more dramatic consequences. This Monday, around 9:45 a.m., a plane used for training Air and Space Force pilots at air base 701 in Salon-de-Provence caught fire after landing in an emergency on national road 113, in the Bouches-du-Rhône sub-prefecture, Le Figaro learned from the LR mayor of the commune Nicolas Isnard.

According to an Air Force press release, the plane was in the middle of an “instructional flight” with, on board, an instructor and a student pilot, both slightly injured. “Conscious, the crew members were immediately treated by the air base’s medical teams,” adds the press release.

“It’s an achievement,” applauds the mayor of Salon-de-Provence. We must applaud the dexterity of the professor instructor.

While the fire risk is significant in Bouches-du-Rhône, around thirty firefighters from the department were dispatched to the site to contain the flames.

The investigation by the State Aeronautical Safety Accident Investigation Office will determine the causes of this accident. An investigation entrusted to the research section of the Air and Space Gendarmerie has also been launched, specifies the Air Force.
