Indian Redditor shares feelings of being denied Canadian PR

At a time when the waiting line for a US Green Card is only getting longer, the situation in Canada is not very different either as a Redditor's post on coming back to India has gone viral. The Redditor came to Canada in 2023 and has been working in a managerial position in IT, but announced the decision to return to India on not getting Permanent Residency in Canada. The Redditor explained that they did everything by the book and really hoped to settle in Canada but offered the realization: Canada does not owe me PR. The post went viral as many social media users lauded the mature understanding of the situation and some also shared their similar experience. "I came to Canada in 2023 and, like a lot of people, hoped I'd eventually be able to call this place home permanently. I didn't study here or come through some complicated route. I came here to work, had a good career and was fortunate enough to be very well compensated (way above what people are usually paid for my level and years of experience). I did everything by the book (maxed out all my scores with learning French being the only option left which I didn't want to pursue) and hoped that somewhere along the way there would be a realistic path to PR. It just never happened," the person wrote. "I don't say that from a place of entitlement. Having a good job, paying taxes or contributing to the economy doesn't mean Canada owes me PR. But the immigration system can be incredibly frustrating when you're trying to plan a life around it. Scores change, programs change, draws change, rules change, and you keep wondering what the next announcement means for you. Eventually I realized I was making too many life decisions around permits, points and immigration timelines instead of what actually made sense for me and my family," the Redditor explained the decision to move back to India. "I'm disappointed because I genuinely wanted Canada to work out, but I'm not leaving bitter. I've had some great experiences and got to see some ridiculously beautiful places. Seriously, Canada is unfairly beautiful sometimes. There are views from random road trips that I think I'll remember for the rest of my life. For all my frustrations with immigration, I'm genuinely grateful I got to live here. So that's it for me. No more CRS calculators, immigration announcements or wondering what the next draw will look like. Goodbye Canada. The PR dream wasn't meant to be, but I'm surprisingly okay with that," the post added.

Why has getting Canadian PR become difficult?

Under the 2026–2028 Immigration Levels Plan, Canada slashed its overall PR admission target to 380,000 per year. With over 100,000 fewer spots available per year, competition within the Express Entry pool is significantly intensified, keeping minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-offs consistently high. IRCC is in the process of replacing the classic three federal streams (Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades) into a single consolidated class. The government is reviewing the 600-point boost traditionally given for a Provincial Nomination (PNP), as IRCC's targeted draws already capture similar profiles.
