Intense emission of lava ash from Etna: C1 airspace and Catania airport closed

An intense emission of lava ash is underway from the summit craters of Etna, producing an eruptive cloud whose height is estimated at 4 kilometers. Dispersal occurs towards the South.

The phenomenon is observed by the INGV Osservatorio Etneo which issued a warning for the flight, the Vona (Volcano observatory notice for aviation), red in colour, the fourth level of alert on a scale of four.

The current eruptive phase of Etna has led to the closure of one of the air spaces around the volcano, C1, and the suspension of flight activities arriving at Catania airport until 4pm.
