Fraudsters have begun to use the theme of selling a new iPhone, so it’s worth ordering smartphones only from familiar resources, checking the start date of pre-orders and sales with the manufacturer’s official messages, Alexander Vurasko, director of development of the Center for Monitoring External Digital Threats of the Solar Group, told RIA Novosti.

According to the expert, the release of the new iPhone created “an ideal opportunity for fraud.” Within a short period, a large number of people are simultaneously searching for information about price, pre-order and delivery times.

“You need to start placing an order yourself: open a familiar store application or enter the website address manually, and not follow a link from an advertisement... You need to check the start date of pre-orders and sales with official messages from the manufacturer... You should not tell anyone your Apple account password, two-factor authentication codes, recovery key or device passcode,” he said.

The specialist also recommended checking the entire website address for purchase, including the spelling of the domain. The padlock icon and the use of HTTPS mean that the connection is encrypted, but do not confirm the integrity of the site owner: fraudulent resources may also have a certificate.

In addition, according to Vurasko, on marketplaces and ad platforms it is impossible to transfer payment and delivery arrangements to an external messenger or to a website sent by the seller. “Particularly risky are transfers to an individual’s card to an unknown seller, payment with cryptocurrency and full prepayment without the possibility of challenging the operation,” he commented.
