Iran considers US targets in Europe in case tensions escalate

If the US escalates tensions, Iran is considering striking American targets in Europe. It is stated that Iran's potential targets include the Bezmer Air Base in Bulgaria and the British Akrotiri Air Base in Cyprus.

According to the British newspaper Financial Times, Bulgaria may be a target of Iran because it allowed US refueling planes to use Bezmer Air Base last month.

It is also stated that Iran considers attacking submarine fiber optic cables in the Strait of Hormuz as one of the options on the table in case the conflict escalates.

The signal that Iran could strike targets outside the Middle East has been given before.

THE REVOLUTIONARY GUARDS WARNED

Last month, Iran's Revolutionary Guard threatened Britain over the US's use of British military bases and warned that "any base used to launch an attack on Iranian territory will be considered a legitimate target."

Experts describe Iran's missile threat to targets in Europe and other regions as "real but limited."

It is stated that Iran can target US elements in Southern and Southeastern Europe with medium-range ballistic missiles such as the Shahab series, but will have difficulty inflicting effective damage on points at longer distances.

DIEGO GARCIA BASE WAS TARGETED

The Washington administration announced that in February, when the war started, Iran launched multiple missiles at the Diego Garcia base, which is approximately 4 thousand kilometers away and used jointly by the USA and the UK. However, none of the missiles reached the target.

Douglas Barry, an expert at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, says that this attack is important because it shows that Iran has missiles with a range of more than 2 thousand kilometers.

Barry points out that it is not known exactly how many missiles with such a long range Iran has.

It is emphasized that Iran's response to the USA will depend on the steps taken by Washington.
