The Hottest Summer in the Last 65 Years Was Recorded in Spain

The Spanish Meteorological Institute reported that the summer of 2026 will be the hottest summer in the last 65 years.

According to the data announced by the Spanish Meteorological Institute, the 41-day heat wave record recorded in 2022 reached 61 days this year. While the average temperature across the country was measured as 24.5 degrees, it was reported that this figure was 2.4 degrees above seasonal norms. It was stated that heat waves continued in September and affected 16 cities. The institution pointed out that all of the 10 hottest summers in history occurred in the 21st century and that the duration of the summer season is gradually getting longer.

In the statement, it was stated that thanks to the rains in the winter months, the water level in the dams remained above 62 percent, preventing the drinking water crisis. However, it was reported that due to the record heat in the country, large-scale forest fires occurred in many regions, especially in Madrid and Aragon.
