August 2026 Temperature Analysis from Meteorology: The 16th Hottest August in the Last 56 Years

The temperature analysis report of the General Directorate of Meteorology for August 2026 has been published. According to the report, average temperatures in August are in the south of the Aegean Region and in İskenderun, Dinar, Manavgat, Samandağ, Fethiye, Mersin, Köyceğiz, Karataş, Antalya, Alanya, Finike, Burdur, Dörtyol, Eğirdir, Kaş, Isparta, Kale (Demre), Özalp, Erciş, Başkale, Ağrı, Muradiye, Van, Şırnak, Bartın, Çanakkale, It was above seasonal norms around Çorlu, İpsala, Edirne and Gökçeada. In other parts of the country, temperatures were measured around seasonal norms. While the average temperature in August between 1991 and 2020 was 25.1 degrees, the average temperature in August 2026 was recorded as 25.7 degrees. Thus, last month was 0.6 degrees above the long-term average and became the 16th hottest August in the last 56 years.

In August, the lowest temperature in Türkiye was measured in Ardahan with 4.5 degrees, and the highest temperature was measured in Cizre with 46.7 degrees. According to the report, no new extreme maximum or minimum temperature values ​​occurred in August.

AEGEAN AND MEDITERRANEAN ARE ABOVE AVERAGE

While the average temperature of August in the Marmara Region was 24.6 degrees for many years, the average temperature for August in 2026 was 25.4 degrees. The lowest temperature in the region was measured as 13.6 degrees in Balıkesir, and the highest temperature was 39.1 degrees in Uzunköprü. While the average temperature of August in the Aegean Region was 26.5 degrees for many years, the average temperature for August 2026 was 27.5 degrees. The lowest temperature in the region was recorded in Simav with 10.1 degrees, and the highest temperature was recorded in Milas with 43.6 degrees. While the average temperature in August in the Mediterranean Region was 27.4 degrees for many years, the average temperature in August 2026 was 28.2 degrees. The lowest temperature in the region was measured as 7.5 degrees in Göksun, and the highest temperature was 43.2 degrees in Kozan.

The average temperature in August in the Central Anatolia Region was recorded as 23 degrees. While temperatures in the entire region were around seasonal norms, the lowest temperature was measured in Kangal with 5.1 degrees and the highest temperature was measured in Çankırı with 37.8 degrees. While the average temperature in August in the Black Sea Region was 23 degrees for many years, the average temperature in August 2026 was 23.4 degrees. The lowest temperature in the region was recorded as 7.9 degrees in Bayburt, and the highest temperature was 40.6 degrees in Boyabat. While the average temperature of August in the Eastern Anatolia Region was 23.4 degrees for many years, the average temperature for August 2026 was 23.9 degrees.
